Technical Specifications for A/V

 

Overview

The information below can serve as an introduction to MarchingOrder Director for the Audio/Video team managing your ceremony.
 

Instructions

The laptop running the MarchingOrder software will be located in the vicinity of the stage. It will generate a graphic that must be relayed and displayed for the audience. Generally, this is a lower third graphic, and can be placed over a green or black background for keying purposes (samples below).

A/V will need to run a cable to the MarchingOrder laptop; it must be capable of accepting VGA or HDMI output (if the laptop is HD compatible). The cable connects with a video switcher or mixer so that it can be combined with the I-Mag shot of the graduate on-stage. This can be accomplished by connecting the laptop directly to the switcher, or by using a scan converter (such as a Folsom or ScanDo) near the laptop to change the feed to NTSC, and running that signal back to the switcher with either component, coax or fiber wiring.

The desktop of the MarchingOrder Director laptop must be extended in order to work correctly. Monitor 2 (representing the switcher) should be configured to the correct screen resolution. The ceremony coordinators have received information on how to do this and it should require no action from A/V.

Once the signal is recognized as an input to the switcher, A/V typically uses a downstream key (DSK) to filter the black or green background and lay the graphic on top of the I-Mag shot to create one composite output. Another approach is to use a Picture-in-Picture function (PiP), where the graphic is scaled to exclude the green or black portion of the background, leaving only the bottom portion where names are displayed.
